To: My Valentine ♡ xoxo

So here we are....the second month in the year celebrating yet again, another holiday. The stores are overwhelmed with pink and red just about everywhere, the teddy bears are as big as a 50 in. screen TV, and the candy that you aren't suppose to be eating, just seems to become even more of a craving during this time. Yep, you guessed it..........Valentine's Day! When I was younger I looked forward to Valentines Day for the aesthetic and the surprises. Whether I had a valentine or not, I knew my mom was always going to make sure I felt loved. Funny thing is, as I got older, I felt like Valentine's Day meant that I needed someone. It was a day where I should have been picked — apparently by a man — and I should be his young lady and have him give me the most non-thoughtful gift from the shelf of CVS. And for those who carry the idea that they have to have someone, I'm here to tell you.....FUCK THAT.

Society makes it seem like when Valentine's Day comes around it's a bad thing to actually be single. We have this holiday where you're almost made to feel like you should hide in your apartment because you have nobody to show off or express your love for. But the real question is, who's going to love you better than you? It's time we put an end to the pressure of "needing" someone. We pressure ourselves to tolerate bullshit from people we know aren't even worthy just to say we have someone. So here's my Valentine's message to whatever single, beautiful, person is reading this......spend it alone and I promise you WILL be okay.

Try to avoid the idea of social media for the day and just take the time out for yourself to be alone and I mean really and truly be alone. Take this day to figure out the things you love about yourself, your interests, your passions, your weaknesses, your hobbies, etc. Once you start to treasure your new-found freedom, you will realize that taking time for yourself will show you what is most important in your life. Enjoying your single time will make what you want clearer and reveal which areas of your life you should build upon.

Embrace WHY you're alone and don't run from it. Maybe it's because you realized a past relationship wasn't healthy, maybe you were betrayed by someone you felt you had given your all too, or simply, maybe you just have things you need to work on eternally. Whatever it is, and whatever that thing may be, take this day to address it. Supposedly on this day is where women should be showered in gifts and affection but isn't that something we can do ourselves? Yes, it's probably a great feeling to be showered in gifts by your very special someone but honey......you can buy yourself the same gift and get the very same feeling and reaction he attempted to give you. DON'T BE DUMB.

Take yourself to dinner, buy that shirt that you've been eyeing for awhile, watch your favorite movie, cook yourself your favorite meal, link up with the girls and have a girls night out, etc. Whatever it is you do embrace the fact that it's OKAY to be single. In 2019 we are unapologetically loving ourselves and we aren't going to feel bad about it.

To my valentine......you are strong, beautiful, powerful, resilient, and you aren't going to sit around and take anything from anyone because you are worth so much more.

To my Valentine.......you are a walking goddess who's ground deserves to worshipped for every single step.

To my Valentine......you are smart, courageous, outgoing, big hearted, kind, funny, and loving.

You are an absolute badass, and everyday I promise to try and love you more and more than I did before.

Happy Valentine's Day ♡

Sincerely with love,

Niyah xoxo
