It's no secret that I've been playing mas for the last 4 years now. For me it seems as though once I started playing, I just couldn't stop. It became a custom tradition which I eventually started to look forward to every October. I skipped out on my college homecoming for the past 2 years in honor of Carnival. So if that doesn't say a lot in itself, then I really don't know what does because in reality......nobody (and I mean nobody) is trying to miss FAMU's Homecoming. I love carnival because it's a way for me to embrace the love I have for my culture, my people, and my background. It's a weekend where you are able to live life despite the B.S. you may have going on. It's a beautiful event that captures the spirit, passion, and essence of Caribbean-American culture of people all over the world. We all celebrate each other and the places we come from with pride, dignity, and a few cups of Johnnie Walker ;)
Disclaimer: IF YOU DON'T VIBE WITH SOCA MUSIC JUST STAY HOME! lol
Carnival is a place of no judgement with a free-spirited environment. You meet SO many different variations of people and you all come together for a good ass time! There's really no other experience like it. I've met some really great individuals over the last 4 years of participating, and even ran into some old friends from elementary school several years in a row. Every year when it's over, I secretly tell myself "Girl you have to come back next year" and so said, so done. Haven't missed a year since lol. I would recommend an experience like carnival to just about anybody who is anybody.
One day I hope to be able to experience Carnival in one of the many different countries that its held. 2020 is feeling pretty special so I you never know :) Next year we're claiming all good things!!!!
